Babylon Village trustees are considering whether to enact laws including one that would make it illegal to leave a vehicle on village streets during a snow emergency.

The others would restrict on-street parking at residential parties, limit the amount of property a driveway can occupy, require shielding on outdoor lighting and set standards for gas piping.

The party-parking measure -- intended to keep guests from taking up street parking in residential neighborhoods -- would permit street parking only in front of the home of the driver or host.

The driveway ordinance would set a permitted width of 10 to 20 feet, and limit the driveway's area to half of a residence's front yard.

The other proposals would require that outdoor lights be installed with shielding to keep them from illuminating neighbors' properties; and grounding for corrugated stainless steel tubing for gas lines in any village building would have to be performed by a licensed electrician.

The board is scheduled to take up the measures at its Sept. 13 meeting, where it may vote on whether to adopt them.
