Bacteria closes Lake Ronkonkoma Beach

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach has been closed to swimmers due to high levels of bacteria in the water, Suffolk County health services commissioner James Tomarken said Wednesday afternoon.

Water testing at the beach in Ronkonkoma showed bacterial levels that exceeded acceptable benchmarks, Tomarken said in a news release.

Tanner Park Beach in Copiague and the Great South Bay remain open.
