Bag stirs police activity near Gilgo Beach

A bag with personal items found about 3 miles east of where the first four of eight bodies of women were discovered in 2010 stirred police activity in the Gilgo Beach area Wednesday. But police said the discovery bore no relevance to that case.

A police spokeswoman said Suffolk Police responded to Ocean Parkway eastbound west of Oak Beach after the materials were found at about 11:20 a.m..

Homicide Chief Jack Fitzpatrick declined to say exactly what was found in the bag, but confirmed that the items were not connected to the 2010 case and that police were at the scene.

The items were found in an area where a missing Queens Village woman's car wallet and bathrobe were found March 17 near West Gilgo Beach. The woman, Natasha Jugo, 31, has not been seen since she left her home March 16, an NYPD spokesman said.

A Nassau police spokesman said the items were not tied to the Jugo case. Nassau police are assisting the NYPD on the case.

Since 2010, the remains of a man, a toddler and eight women, five of whom were later identified as prostitutes, have been found along Ocean Parkway.

Suffolk police, the lead agency in that investigation, have said there is no connection between Jugo's case and the discoveries of those remains, found between December 2010 and April 2011. Those killings remain unsolved.
