A Baiting Hollow woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries after the car she was driving sideswiped a parked Jeep then struck a tree Sunday night in Calverton, Riverhead Town police said.

The crash occurred on Edwards Avenue at 9:20 p.m.

Police said Brigit Burgio was driving a 2004 Kia Optima north on Edwards when she sideswiped a 2014 Jeep Wrangler parked “off the roadway,” on the west side, then hit the tree.

Volunteers from the Riverhead Fire Department had to extricate Burgio from the car, police said. Police said Burgio was traveling alone — and said the cause of the crash is under investigation on Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call detectives at 631-727-4500.
