A Dix Hills bank was robbed Thursday by a man who handed a teller a note demanding money and threatening to use a weapon, police said.

The teller at the Bank of America branch, 709 Old Country Rd., gave the man cash from a drawer, Suffolk police said, and he fled the bank about 12:50 p.m. in an unknown direction.

No weapon was displayed, police said, and there were no reported injuries.

The bank robber was described as a man 5 feet 9 inches tall, in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing dark glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt, police said. He was carrying a newspaper and a paper bag.

Detectives asked that anyone with information contact them at 631-852-6295 or call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
