Suffolk police are investigating whether the stocky bandit who robbed a Dix Hills Bank of America branch on Saturday is the same stocky bandit who robbed a North Babylon credit union a day earlier, the police department said.

In each robbery, a man handed a teller a threatening note demanding cash, indicated he had a gun, and fled on foot with the stolen money, police said.

In neither robbery was anyone injured, a gun displayed, or a dye pack used, police said.

To discourage robberies, police agencies on Long Island have a policy of not saying how much money bank robbers get.

Saturday's robbery happened at the Bank of America at 709 Old Country Road about 12:30 p.m.

Friday's robbery happened at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union at 1350 Deer Park Ave. about 2:18 p.m.

The bandits in both incidents were described by police as white, middle aged, about 5-foot-10, and wearing a baseball cap.
