A man who barricaded himself in a West Islip home Friday morning was taken into custody and transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for observation, Suffolk County police said.

Police said they received a 911 call reporting the barricade situation at 9:50 a.m. and said officers and volunteers from the West Islip Fire Department responded to the scene on Parkwood Road. The home is south of Union Boulevard and east of Route 231.

The man, who was not identified, was the only person in the house, police said.

Police confirmed the house was the scene of a fire on July 16, but said an investigation found that fire had been started by a cigarette and was not criminal.

The investigation into the latest incident is continuing.
