An 11-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool in Bay Shore Thursday after he entered the pool at a friend's house without permission, police said.

Tre-Zon P'Lindor, 11, of Bay Shore, and his two friends, also 11, had been dismissed early from Bay Shore Middle School and headed to the friend's home, said Suffolk police Det. Sgt William Lamb.

Once they arrived, the friend's 18-year-old brother told the youngsters that they could not go in the pool because their parents were not home, Lamb said.

"Standing rule in the house was no kids in the pool without the parents," Lamb said.

The pool is not fenced, although the backyard is. Lawrence O'Leary, the Town of Islip's public safety enforcement commissioner, said the town had no record of a permit for the pool.

"This is the first we're hearing about it because of this tragedy," said O'Leary.

The owners of the house where the pool was located couldn't be reached Thursday.

After being told they couldn't use the pool, one of the friends left the home.

Tre-Zon, however, entered the pool and began walking toward the deep end, which Lamb said was 4 to 8 feet deep. After some time, the friend who lived there realized Tre-Zon, who police say couldn't swim, was in trouble. He pulled Tre-Zon from the water, Lamb said.

Fire officials said a call for an ambulance was received at 1:02 p.m. and Tre-Zon was taken by Bay Shore-Brightwaters ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

A woman who answered the phone at Tre-Zon's home said the boy's family did not want to speak.

Adriana Herrera, 13, cousin of the homeowner and a neighbor, said she got a call from her cousin that Tre-Zon had drowned. She and other family members rushed over to the pool, she said.

"As soon as we saw the kid in the pool, we called the police," she said. When police arrived they performed CPR, Herrera said.

Lamb said no charges have been filed.

One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said, "It's really a tragedy that shouldn't have happened."
