A Friday morning crash between two vehicles near a police precinct in Bay Shore left a man critically injured, Suffolk County police said.

The crash occurred about 8:15 a.m. on Fifth Avenue near Suffolk’s Third Precinct, police said.

Police said Blanco Santos, 41, of Bay Shore was driving a 2014 Nissan pickup truck north on Fifth Avenue when his truck was rear-ended by a 2014 Honda.

Santos received a severe head laceration, Det. Sgt. Jeffrey Walker said.

Santos was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Honda, Nickolaus Badwah, 21, of Ronkonkoma, was not injured, police said.

Walker said no charges were filed, but the investigation was ongoing. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Fifth Avenue was closed in both directions from Connecticut to Massachusetts avenues for two hours Friday morning while Third Squad detectives investigated.

Police ask anyone who might have information on the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
