A medical emergency led to an early morning car crash Monday in Bay Shore that left a 66-year-old man dead, Suffolk County police said.

Police did not release the identity of the victim, other than to say he was from Bay Shore. The victim was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

Police said the victim was driving south on Fifth Avenue when he suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into hedges at 2:07 a.m. Police would not reveal the medical emergency but said it was the cause of his death.
