Prom-posal at Bay Shore homecoming is in the cards

Toushis Azad knew the best way to ask his friend Bryn Schlussler to the Bay Shore High School junior prom.
He didn’t court her.
He carded her.
A fan of magic tricks, the Bay Shore Senior High School student decided that Friday night’s pep rally in the school gymnasium was the perfect place.
“I am a magician and I wanted to do a card trick,” said Azad, 16. “I thought it would be unique to ask her with a magic trick.”
His planned worked perfectly, because Schlussler said yes after picking a random card from the deck Azad shuffled in the middle of the gym floor with everyone watching.
The card with “Will you go to junior prom with me?” was written was on, fittingly, the eight of hearts.
“It was crazy to be asked in front of everyone. I was like, ‘Oh, my God,” said Schlussler, 16. “I am excited about going to the prom with Toushis. He is funny and obviously good at magic.”
The pep rally included athletic teams being announced to thunderous applause from the students. Each team brought its own individuality to the gymnasium floor, incorporating the latest dance trends in the process.
“The pep rally expresses what we are a school, showing off our sports and talents,” said Bay Shore senior cheerleader Elizabeth Nocella, 17. “There is no ‘this’ group and ‘that’ group at the pep rally. It’s just one group – Bay Shore High School.”
