A person was struck and killed by a train near the Penataquit Avenue grade crossing in Bay Shore just before noon on Monday, the Long Island Rail Road said.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene by Suffolk County EMTs, according to MTA spokeswoman Joana Flores. The individual was not authorized to be on the tracks and no criminality is suspected, Flores added. The MTA has not released an ID.

There were fewer than 100 passengers aboard the train, which was running from Babylon to Speonk, during the 11:49 a.m. incident, Flores said.

Service on part of the Montauk Branch had resumed with "heavy delays" just before 3 p.m., according to the LIRR.
