Three beaches in Suffolk — Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Corey Beach and Bayport Beach, both in Bayport — have been closed to bathing after dangerous levels of bacteria were found there, the county health department said Saturday.

In a news release announcing the closures, the department said: “bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.”

The reopening will occur “when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable level,” the release said.

For the latest information on affected beaches, call the bathing beach hotline at 631-852-5822.
