The bank robber with a salt-and-pepper beard appears to have struck for a second time in five days, holding up a Shirley bank Monday morning, Suffolk police said.
The note he handed at 11 a.m. to an Empire National Bank teller said he had a gun, police said. He ran off after getting money from the bank, at 1044 William Floyd Pkwy., police said.
He used the same routine at 1 p.m. Thursday in getting cash from the HSBC bank on Montauk Highway in Mastic, police said.
Both times he threatened to use a gun, but witnesses told investigators they did not see one, police said.
Photos from both banks show him wearing a dark-colored cap and jacket.
He appears to be between 45 and 55 years, with a medium build, police said.
Detectives from the pattern crime unit ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
