Bellone aide cleared for college job
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's aide Ben Zwirn has been cleared to take his new job at Suffolk County Community College, now that the legislature approved the sales of the county nursing home and land for the rail hub in Yaphank.
Zwirn is slated to start Monday as the college's coordinator of intergovernmental affairs.
Zwirn, the former North Hempstead supervisor, had been scheduled to make the move in July. But Bellone asked the college to delay the hiring until after the county budget process was complete. With the approvals of the $43 million worth of Yaphank real estate, the county executive freed Zwirn of his duties, essentially as lobbyist for the administration. -- Rick Brand
