Bellone chooses Bishop aide for deputy

Suffolk Executive-elect Steve Bellone has chosen a deputy for intergovernmental relations: Jon Schneider, an aide to Rep. Timothy Bishop (D-Southampton) and ex-Brookhaven Democratic leader, party sources said.

Last week, Bellone named Regina Calcaterra chief deputy, and party sources say Babylon town aide Ben Zwirn, former North Hempstead supervisor, will be Bellone's liaison to the county legislature, a role he played for outgoing executive Steve Levy.

Schneider briefly served as deputy to Brian Foley when he was Brookhaven supervisor. Until last January, he was Brookhaven Democratic chairman, a position he held for about one year.
