Bicyclist dies in collision with state parks service vehicle in East Islip, police say

A bicyclist died Friday, July 11, 2014, at Heckscher State Park in East Islip after a collision with a state parks service vehicle just before 10:45 a.m. near parking field 1, state parks police said. Credit: Stringer News Service / AJ Ryan
A bicyclist died Friday at Heckscher State Park after a collision with a state parks service vehicle, state parks police said.
The collision at the East Islip park occurred just before 10:45 a.m. at the intersection of a bicycle path and the park's main roadway near parking field 1, police said.
The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and pronounced dead. Police withheld the bicyclist's name, until the family was told of the death.
Park police and the state police accident reconstruction unit are investigating the accident. Anyone with information on the collision may call state park police at 631-321-3700.
