Bicyclist seriously hurt in Eastport crash, police say
A bicyclist was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after being hit by a vehicle on Sunrise Highway in Eastport, State Police said Thursday.
Joseph Sepe, 37, of Manorville, was pedaling across the eastbound lanes just after 7 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a Toyota Corolla, east of County Route 111, police said. The driver did not see the bicyclist and stayed at the scene, police said.
Sepe sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Eastbound Sunrise Highway was shut down for hours as an accident reconstruction team worked at the scene.
