Riverhead Town Police are investigating a Friday morning accident in which the driver of a pickup truck hit and seriously injured a bicyclist at Route 58 and Mill Road in Riverhead.

Peter DeBernardi, 75, of Calverton, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup east on Route 58 at about 6:36 a.m. when he hit a bicycle being ridden by Encarnaciom Gregorio, 33, of Riverhead, police said.

Gregorio "sustained serious injuries and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center," police said.

Police are trying to determine a cause and ask anyone with information about the accident to call 631-727-4500, ext. 328.
