Board member's 3 jobs with Babylon town
Tony Martinez not only makes $57,000 a year as a Babylon Town board member and $10,000 as deputy supervisor, but since January he is also paid $20,000 annually working for the Babylon Industrial Development Agency.
According to minutes of the Jan. 10 meeting, the IDA board unanimously approved Martinez's hiring as the "agency's advocate in expediting matters." At the time, IDA board member Patrick Halpin, former county executive, said "having Mr. Martinez expediting matters will make a great difference for the IDA."
Martinez, a former union organizer, said he is working full time for the town and is working for the agency as a consultant -- although the board minutes refer to his pay as salary. He said he is paid for "extra work" beyond his town board job.-- Rick Brand
