Boat crash injures two men in Blue Point, police say
A boat was badly damaged and two of its occupants injured when it slammed into a jetty in Blue Point early Monday, Suffolk County police said.
Two men who had been on the boat "fled the scene," the police said. The men climbed the jetty to shore and were found a short time later on a private dock, police said. Officers were interviewing them to determine who had been operating the boat, a 21-foot, 2004 Maverick, according to police.
Police said one of the men, Jarret Brownie, 32, of Patchogue, had lacerations of the head; the other, Thomas Gamble, 32, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, had a broken foot. Both were treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.
A call to 911 about 4 a.m. reported that a boat had struck a jetty in the Great South Bay just south of Namkee Lane.
