The death of a man whose body was found in the woods by a group of Shoreham-Wading River High School students Wednesday afternoon has been ruled noncriminal, police said Thursday.

The students found the body of an adult male near the Shoreham school but not on district property, school officials said in a statement on the district's website.

The students "immediately informed district officials," who notified police, the statement said. Suffolk police said they received a 911 call about the body at 4:42 p.m.

Homicide investigators determined the unidentified man's death was not criminal, a police spokeswoman said.

The body "had no connection to the district," the district's statement said.
