Bones found in Yaphank woods
The bones were found in an area off Gerard Road near Patchogue-Yaphank Road, police said.
A forensics expert was called in Wednesday night to determine whether the bones were human or from an animal, police said.
The hamlet of Yaphank is less than 10 miles from Manorville, where Suffolk detectives have unresolved investigations into six instances of human remains discoveries since November 2000.
The most recent discovery in Manorville was March 21, when remains of a female was found in Manorville Hills County Park.
