A 2-year-old child fell through a second-story window in a Mattituck home Tuesday and into the basement, where he was found by a plumbing crew, Southold town police said.

Javier Cruz was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital after being found shortly after 11:15 a.m., police said.

He was inside a home on Route 25 when he plunged out the window and through the open basement doors, police said.

He was in fair condition Tuesday evening, a hospital spokesman said.

Other details were not immediately available Tuesday.
