A 4-year-old boy died in a three-car crash in Fort Salonga on Saturday, Suffolk police said.

The boy, Finn Egan, his mother, Emily Snyder, 29, and his aunt, Jennifer Snyder, 41, of Huntington Station, were heading west on Pulaski Road in a 2008 Honda at 6:42 p.m. when their vehicle was hit by a 2005 Honda driven by Gregory Henig, 53, of Holbrook, police said. Henig's vehicle was going south on Meadow Glen Road at the time of the crash.

The 2008 Honda, which was driven by Jennifer Snyder, then struck a 1994 Buick driven by David Deleon, 30, of Brentwood, police said.

Jennifer Snyder, Emily Snyder and Finn were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where Finn was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m.

Finn was restrained by a seat belt but was not in a child car seat. According to New York State Police, children 4 through 6 years old "must be secured in an age- and size-appropriate child safety seat or booster seat." Police are investigating whether the seating was a factor in the severity of the boy's injuries.

Henig was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, and Deleon was treated at Huntington Hospital and released, police said. Two passengers in Deleon's vehicle were treated at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown and released.

All of the vehicles were impounded for safety checks, and police are continuing the investigation. There were no criminal charges filed as of Sunday morning. Police ask anyone who might have seen the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452. Calls will remain confidential.
