Boy approached by stranger at bus stop flees
An 8-year-old boy waiting for the school bus in Manorville was offered a ride by a stranger in a white vehicle Monday morning, authorities said.
The Eastport Elementary School student ran to a neighbor's house for help and arrived for classes safe on his bus, said Mark A. Nocero, superintendent of Eastport-South Manor school district.
Suffolk police said the boy's mother reported the incident on Laurel Crescent Street in a phone call to police at 8:25 a.m. Police said they are investigating.
In a letter sent to parents Monday, Nocero urged them to review safety procedures with their children.
"I am very proud of this student's quick thinking and his immediate actions to get to safety and report the incident to an adult," Nocero wrote. "We ask you to reinforce with your children the critical importance of taking proactive measures to ensure their safety."
