A 9-year-old boy riding a dirt bike was seriously injured after crashing into a tree in the backyard of his Medford home Tuesday, Suffolk police said.
Jacob Pfeiffer was being supervised by his father, Richard Pfeffer, 49, when the accident happened about 5:40 p.m. at their Buffalo Avenue residence, police said. The father was following his son on his own dirt bike at the time, police said.
The boy was wearing a helmet and other safety gear, police said, and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for injuries that were serious but not life threatening.
Fifth Precinct detectives were investigating.
