Boy, 17, seriously injured in fall off pickup truck in St. James, police say

A 17-year-old boy who was standing on the running board of a pickup truck was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after he fell and hit his head, Suffolk County police said.

Officers responded to the scene at Veterans Memorial Park on Moriches Road in St. James around 2:40 p.m. The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police have not identified the victim.
