An 8-year-old boy riding a mini dirtbike at a Ronkonkoma motocross club was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he collided with an 11-year-old on another dirtbike, Suffolk police said.

Charles Wallshein, of Smithtown, who sustained head trauma, was taken by Suffolk police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center in serious condition.

Skyler Primack of upstate Briarcliff Manor, the operator of the other dirtbike at Club MX on South 10th Street, was not injured.

Mike Rio, the owner of Club MX, said Thursday night that he was at the hospital with Wallshein's family and they had good news from the doctors. "He's stable," Rio said. "They said he's going to make a full recovery."

Wallshein was operating a 2009 Honda CRF50F motocross bike at about 4:30 p.m. at Club MX, a private riding club at 2000 S. 10th St., when the accident took place, police said.

Wallshein lost control of the vehicle, fell and was struck by a 2009 Honda CR150 ridden by Primack, police said.

Both boys were wearing helmets, police said.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the type of vehicle the boys were riding.
