A Brentwood man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his car on a straight stretch of road in Islip and hit a pole, police said.

Fidias Perez, 43, was alone in a 2000 Lincoln sedan and headed north on Commack Road when he crossed the oncoming lane and collided with a utility pole north of Cumberland Street at about 5:30 a.m.

Perez, of Winston Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene. Det. Sgt. Tony Lavista said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the crash. It was unclear how fast he was driving. Residents reported hearing the crash, but there were no known eyewitnesses.

Police said they believe Perez was headed home from a friend's house when he crashed. The investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.
