A Brentwood man was charged Thursday with attempted murder for attacking a man with a machete in the hamlet last month before driving over him, Suffolk police said.
Rosali Marquez, 38, of White Street, was charged with second-degree attempted murder after Suffolk police, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service, took him into custody, authorities said.
On Sept. 10, Suffolk police said, Marquez was driving in Brentwood with a man described as an acquaintance when the two got into a fight. Marquez stopped the vehicle about 9:40 p.m. on Grove Street. After he and the passenger got out, Marquez attacked the man with a machete before getting back in the vehicle and running over him, police said.
The victim, 35, of Bay Shore, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries and has since been released, said police. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
After an investigation, Third Squad detectives, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Marquez in Queens, police said.
Marquez was to be held overnight Thursday at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore and is scheduled for arraignment Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
