Brentwood man charged in sex offense
New Rochelle police said Friday they arrested a Brentwood man on charges he sexually molested a 14-year-old boy while serving as a dean of students at a middle school in the Westchester County city.
A police news release said the abuse occured while Jose Martinez, 38, of 205 Elliot St., worked as an administrative dean at Isaac E. Young Middle School. The release said the student was sexually abused between March or April of 2010 and June 2010 in his office.
Martinez was arrested around 7 p.m. Thursday at his home, police said.
In a statement, the New Rochelle School District said it was cooperating with the investigation.
The statement said Martinez was hired by the district in 2007 as a dean at the middle school and became an assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary School in September.
He resigned as a district employee on March 11, the district said.
The release also said Martinez had passed "the normal state criminal fingerprinting check" and that there had been no previous record of complaints from students or staff about him.
Martinez is charged with a performing a criminal sexual act, a felony, police said.
His arraignment information was not immediately available.
