A pedestrian was critically injured Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle in Central Islip, Suffolk police said.

At about 8:12 p.m. Gashell Morrison, 29, of Central Islip was driving a 2010 Hyundai south on Islip Avenue, near Apricot Street, when her vehicle struck Carlos Castellon, Suffolk police said. Castellon, 33, of Brentwood had stepped into the roadway before he was hit, police said.

Castellon was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in critical condition late Sunday night. Morrison was also taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.

Morrison’s car was impounded for a safety check, and police said they are continuing their investigation.
