A Brentwood man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car Friday night at a Brentwood intersection, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Paul Belanger, 35, of Brentwood, "stepped into traffic" on Second Avenue near Brentwood Road and was struck by a westbound 2013 Toyota Corolla at about 9:50 p.m., police said. Belanger was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in serious condition with a head injury.

The driver of the Corolla, Pedro Ramirez-Medrano, 29, of Brentwood, was not injured. Police said he stayed at the scene and his vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Police are continuing to investigate.
