A Brentwood woman was arrested and charged under Leandra's Law on Wednesday after police said she was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Central Islip while driving drunk with her three children.

The children - a girl, 7, and two boys, 3 and 2 months - were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for observation, Suffolk County police said.

Their mother, Ana Rios, 30, of Crooked Hill Road, was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car under Leandra's Law.

Police said Rios was driving her 2002 Trailblazer west on Cypress Street at 4:30 a.m. when she struck a parked 1989 Chevy pickup, then careened across the street and hit a 2006 Toyota.

Police said she then drove off. She was stopped by a Suffolk sheriff's deputy traveling north on Lowell Avenue, police said.

The law, named after a girl killed by a drunken driver, makes it a felony even on a first offense to drive drunk with a child in the car.
