Police said Christina Fuentes, 29, of Brentwood, and Maria Canales, 26, of Brentwood, were at El Milagro at 350 Oak St. in Copiague when Fuentes slashed Canales in the stomach with a broken bottle. (Sept. 22, 2013) Credit: Paul Mazza

A Brentwood woman was slashed with a broken bottle by another woman during an altercation early Sunday morning at a Copiague restaurant, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Christina Fuentes, 29, of Brentwood, and Maria Canales, 26, of Brentwood, were at El Milagro at 350 Oak St. shortly before 1:30 a.m. when Fuentes slashed Canales in the stomach with a broken bottle.

Canales was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was treated and released, police said.

Fuentes was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. She was to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
