A Calverton Hills man has been charged in a pair of armed robberies at a drugstore and a pizza shop last week on East Main Street in Riverhead.

Brian Houpe Jr., 26, was arrested without incident Friday evening at his home by the Riverhead Town Police Department and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.

Police said that in the first incident on May 8, Houpe wore a mask as he entered Barth's Drug Store, at 32 E. Main St., displayed a handgun and demanded cash from a store employee.

Four days later, on May 12, Houpe, with his face covered by a handkerchief, allegedly entered Uncle Joe's Pizzeria Cafe, at 12 W. Main St., and demanded cash while holding a handgun.

Houpe is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Saturday morning.
