The Brookhaven Town website is up and running again.

The site, brookhavenny.gov, was restored at about 1 p.m. Tuesday after it had been shut down Sunday while authorities investigated whether it had been hacked by a pro-Islamic State group.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is investigating the suspected hacking.

Brookhaven officials installed a new server, replacing one that may have been compromised, town spokesman Kevin Molloy said.

“The previous server is still the subject of an investigation with federal authorities,” Molloy said.

Brookhaven officials said Sunday a page was added to the official town site by a group known as Team System Dz. People using the Team Systen Dz Facebook page were directed to the page on Brookhaven’s site, which included what appeared to be pro-ISIS propaganda.

Regular users of the town website would not have seen the message, town officials said. Brookhaven Town records were not affected by the hack, they said.

Team System Dz also accessed several Ohio state government department websites, including that of Gov. John Kasich, on Sunday. The group has hacked several government websites around the world in recent years and boasted about it on its Facebook page.
