Brookhaven work site accident leaves man seriously injured

A work site accident Thursday in Brookhaven has left a 25-year-old man with life-threatening injuries, Suffolk County police said.
The employee at Long Island Precast, which makes concrete drainage trenches and retaining walls, was hooking a forklift to a 4-foot square drain when he slipped and fell at least 8 feet, said Det. Sgt. Bryan McMenemy of the Fifth Precinct.
He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.
The accident was reported just after noon and happened in the rear of the company's grounds, at 95 Beaver Dam Rd., McMenemy said.
Three drains were stacked on top of each other, and the employee was standing on the second one, reaching out to hook up the top drain so it could be delivered to a job site, the detective sergeant said.
He fell onto hard ground and hurt his chest, McMenemy said.
