Brother: Wyandanch man had heart problems
A Wyandanch man who died of a heart attack after Suffolk County police officers arrested him early Saturday morning had heart problems, his brother said Sunday.
"Any extreme pressure on him would have caused him to have a heart attack," said Alan Jackson of his brother, Willie Jackson, 45. "He had a stroke eight months ago and he had gout."
Police said Willie Jackson struggled with officers as they arrested him on suspicion of disorderly conduct outside the Peace Makers Motorcycle Club, 1575 Straight Path, Wyandanch.
The arrest followed a 12:45 a.m. 911 call to report an intoxicated man who refused to leave the club.
Jackson was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
Homicide detectives are investigating his death, police said Sunday.
Officials said they are awaiting results of toxicology reports, which are routine in these cases.
Alan Jackson of Virginia, said police did not let him see his brother's body in the hospital early Saturday.
However, he doubted his brother would have resisted arrest. He had difficulty walking because of his health issues, he said. "He would have listened to the police officers."
Alan Jackson viewed his brother's body Sunday at the medical examiner's office in Hauppauge. "He's got bruises on the side of his head," he said.
