Buckling closes lanes on LIE
Another road buckling from the heat caused the closure Friday of the westbound left and center lanes of the Long Island Expressway between Exits 67 and 68 in Brookhaven, New York State Department of Transportation officials said. The lanes were closed from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Crews are working on the repairs and the right lane of the expressway remains open, DOT officials said.
Road buckling is expected when temperatures top 90 degrees, officials said.
Department officials reported five instances of buckling because of intense heat since July 1, including damage to the LIE on Thursday at Exit 67 in Yaphank, DOT officials said.
