The subject went into the North Amityville restaurant on Sunrise Highway about 7 a.m. and acted like he was going to pay, then jumped onto the counter, prompting the cashier to move back, store surveillance footage shows.
The cashier unlocked two cash drawers with a key, and the robber spent several seconds taking money out from both, the video shows. He ran off on Bayview Avenue, police said.
The robber stole about $100, said Det. Lt. John Rowan of the First Precinct.
The suspect appeared to be 30 to 40 years old, 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall and unshaven, police said. He was wearing a white do-rag, a black shirt with white writing and gold frameglasses, police said.
