Suffolk County Transit bus falls into sinkhole in Coram, police say

A Suffolk County Transit bus partially fell into a sinkhole caused by a water main break that affected dozens of homes in Coram, Suffolk authorities said Friday.

Two passengers and a driver were in the bus when the partially flooded Old Town Road, near Paul's Path, collapsed about 2:30 p.m., trapping the two rear wheels, police said. No one was injured, officials said.
Police said the bus had been removed from the sinkhole but Old Town Road remained closed between Pauls Path and Fairwood Lane through the night.

Repairs to the water main were completed by 5:30 a.m., when water service was restored to the affected homes, said Tim Motz, spokesman for the Suffolk County Water Authority. The road has been temporarily patched and is passable for vehicles.

Motz said water had been shut off to more than 50 homes.
