As a result of track inspections, a total of 14 midday trains will be replaced by buses next Tuesday and Wednesday for passengers traveling between Huntington and Port Jefferson, according to the MTA.

About 740 passengers, eastbound and westbound, are expected to be affected each day, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.

Based on data from a special rail car that "can detect metal fatigue and faults beneath the surface of the steel rails," maintenance workers will be able to correct defects on the spot, the MTA said.
