A pedestrian was struck and injured by a taxicab in Hampton Bays early Sunday morning, police said.

Southampton Town Police said a man was struck about 5 a.m. on Montauk Highway near the McDonald's in Hampton Bays by a driver for Sunset Taxi Cab.

Police found the injured man lying in the street, and rushed him to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated. He remained there late Sunday. His condition was unknown.

The cabbie told police he was traveling west on Montauk Highway and did not see the pedestrian before striking him, police said. Police did not release the names of the driver or the injured man.

Southampton police officials said they continue to investigate the accident.
