Cable service restored after possible vandalism
About 6,000 homes in four Suffolk communities lost cable service for more than five hours after an outage that might have been caused by vandalism, a Cablevision spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The service was restored by 7 p.m., the company said.
Customers in Bohemia, Ronkonkoma, Holbrook and South Holbrook were affected by the possible vandalism of fiber lines in Holbrook.
"The company worked to repair the damage and restore service as quickly as possible," spokeswoman Charlstie Veith said in a statement.
The company contacted all of the customers who lost service, she said.
"Cablevision has launched an investigation in coordination with the Suffolk County Police Department to track down those responsible," Veith added.
A Suffolk police spokesman had no immediate comment.
Cablevision owns Newsday.
