A Calverton woman suffered a serious head injury after she was struck by a car while walking across Old Country Road / Route 58 just after 11 p.m. Friday, Riverhead Town police said.

Shanon Didavide, 29, was trying to cross the roadway from south to north in front of the Holiday Inn Express near Commerce Drive in Calverton when Amanda Riggs, 25, of Ridge, behind the wheel of a 2007 Nissan sedan, crashed into her in the westbound lane, police said in a news release.

Didavide was found lying in the road and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by Riverhead Ambulance and remained there in critical condition, police said.

New York State Police responded and assisted with the investigation by taking roadway measurements and helping with collision reconstruction.

The Nissan was impounded for a safety check, police said. No arrests were made.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Riverhead Town police at 631-727-4500.
