Car hits, critically injures man in Islip
A homeless man was hospitalized in critical condition after he was struck by a car Monday evening on Main Street in Islip, police said.
John Palmer, 66, was struck by a 2003 Jaguar driven by Peter Shaw, 54, of Southampton, at 7:05 p.m. near the intersection of Main and Willowbrook Avenue, Suffolk County police said. Police said Shaw immediately stopped and remained at the scene.
Palmer was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where police said he was in critical but stable condition. Shaw was not injured.
Police said no charges were filed in the incident, but said the investigation is continuing.
