A driver lost control of her car in Riverhead and careened into a house Friday night before hitting a utility pole, Riverhead police said.

Mary Hattorff, 48, was seriously injured in the single car accident and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said.

She was southbound on Northville Turnpike when she veered off the roadway about 6:30 p.m. and into the debris of a demolished house at the corner of East Avenue, police said.

Her car then went across East Avenue and hit a LIPA pole, police said.

It's not clear what caused Hattorff to lose control, police said. Because of her injuries, officers at the scene could not confirm her address, police said.

Hattorff was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which took her to the Riverhead High School parking lot, where a Suffolk County police helicopter transported her to the hospital.
