A pedestrian has serious injuries after being hit by a car in Sayville on Friday night, Suffolk police said.

Shamim Bezum, 62, of Central Islip was crossing the Sunrise Highway service road about 8:14 p.m. when she was hit by an eastbound car, police said. The accident happened by Broadway Avenue.

Bezum suffered head injuries and pelvic and leg fractures, police said. She was in critical condition late Friday at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the car, Bonnie Gallagher, 51, of Centereach had the green light, police said.

Her 2001 Chevrolet was impounded for checks.
